Choose the downlink type deliberately

IE-4000-8T4G-E provides eight Fast Ethernet copper downlinks and four Gigabit combo uplinks. The similarly named IE-4000-8GT4G-E instead has eight Gigabit copper downlinks, while IE-4000-8S4G-E has eight Fast Ethernet fiber downlinks. Cisco lists these as different models in its official IE 4000 hardware guide.

Write the complete part number on the equipment schedule. For each attached endpoint, record its connector, required link speed and separate power arrangement. Do not choose the 8T model on the assumption that every copper port is Gigabit or that it provides PoE.

Count combo uplinks as logical ports

A combo connection offers alternative copper and fiber interfaces for one uplink; it is not two simultaneous uplinks. Record which medium will be used and check the exact transceiver and software support before ordering optics. A nearby model's accessory list is not a compatibility confirmation for this installation.

Prepare the industrial installation enquiry

Provide the site environment, available DC supply, mounting location, endpoint schedule and uplink requirements. Ask for a quotation that separately identifies the switch, power equipment, optics, mounting items and any required software entitlement. Confirm condition, availability, warranty and support against the actual offer rather than assuming them from the family name.

At acceptance, compare the label with the order, verify each required endpoint and uplink, and record the supplied software and configuration. Agree any power interruption or recovery test with the site owner before performing it. These checks define a procurement workflow, not an unconditional performance or availability guarantee.
