IE-4000-8GS4G-E is the Cisco IE 4000 variant with eight Gigabit Ethernet SFP downlinks and four Gigabit combo uplinks. The GS identity differs from IE-4000-8S4G-E, whose downlinks are Fast Ethernet. Verify the exact label when replacing an installed fiber aggregation switch.

Build the optical bill of materials around the link

Specify supported transceivers, fiber type, distance and the remote endpoint for each connection. The switch PID is not evidence that particular SFPs are included. Each combo uplink has copper and fiber alternatives sharing one interface, so a fully connected drawing must not count both media simultaneously.

Keep power resilience distinct from endpoint power

This SKU’s access interfaces are SFP ports, not PoE copper ports. The hardware guide describes redundant DC sources: the switch draws from the higher-voltage source when both operate, with the other maintaining power if one fails. Review source independence and the cabinet wiring as part of the installation design.

Verify software and legacy support requirements

Cisco lists LAN Base as the default feature set and IP Services as a paid upgrade; verify the offered unit’s entitlement if routing features are required. Sale ended July 26, 2024, with July 31, 2029 as the final support date under applicable coverage.
