C9500-24Q-A 24-Port 40G Network Advantage Switch

C9500-24Q-A is the higher-density Q-interface member of this Catalyst 9500 generation. Cisco identifies it as a 24-port 40G switch with Network Advantage; the chassis provides two power-supply slots for a separately validated power design.

Plan the 24-port 40G fabric

Build a port map before ordering optics: identify every QSFP+ optic or breakout assembly, fiber type, peer, link speed and redundancy role. The related C9500-12Q-A has 12 native 40G ports, so it is the lower-density choice when the additional twelve cages and their cabling are not required.

Breakout depends on the software release

Cisco documentation for the C9500-24Q has changed over the product lifetime regarding which interfaces support 4x10G breakout. Record the intended IOS XE release and validate the supported breakout port set in that release before buying QSFP-to-SFP+ assemblies; do not assume all 24 ports provide identical breakout behavior.

Network Advantage is the software tier

The -A suffix identifies Network Advantage rather than a promise that optics, cables or a particular power supply are included. Match the permanent network license, any Cisco subscription entitlement, Smart Licensing state and required routing or fabric features to the serial number during acceptance.

Lifecycle and migration

Cisco ended sale of the C9500-24Q family on April 30, 2024 and lists April 30, 2029 as the last support date. The official migration reference points to C9500-32C. A purchase record should therefore include support eligibility, software compatibility, spare strategy and an approved replacement design.
