C9500-12Q-A 12-Port 40G Network Advantage Switch

C9500-12Q-A is Cisco's 12-port 40G Catalyst 9500 configuration with Network Advantage. It provides a lower native port count than the C9500-24Q-A while retaining the fixed core and aggregation role and two power-supply slots.

Use the 12-port density deliberately

Map the required QSFP+ links, optic reach, fiber plant and peer devices before selecting this PID. The twelve-cage layout can reduce unused interfaces in smaller distribution designs, but growth, dual-homing and maintenance capacity must be reserved instead of inferred from the platform family name.

Document 4x10G breakout

Cisco's interface guidance documents 4x10G breakout operation for the C9500-12Q ports. Confirm that the selected IOS XE release, QSFP breakout assembly and peer-side SFP+ optics form a supported combination, then record the parent-to-child interface mapping for operations.

Separate licensing from accessories

The -A suffix denotes Network Advantage. It does not by itself prove that transceivers, breakout cables or a specific PSU are present. Receiving checks should capture the chassis PID and serial, both PSU and fan PIDs, airflow direction, IOS XE version, Smart Licensing status and subscription term where applicable.

End-of-sale procurement controls

The C9500-12Q family reached end of sale on April 30, 2024, with Cisco support scheduled through April 30, 2029. Cisco names C9500-32QC as its migration reference. Verify active support eligibility and compare interface, optic and feature requirements before accepting a replacement or secondary-market unit.
