C9120AXE-EWC-B Overview
C9120AXE-EWC-B B-Domain Controller AP
C9120AXE-EWC-B is the B-domain version of Cisco's external-antenna Catalyst 9120AXE with an Embedded Wireless Controller image. The SKU is intended for indoor environments where antenna selection and placement must be engineered separately from the AP body.
Do not generalize the B suffix
Use Cisco's live compliance database to confirm B-domain authorization for the deployment country. Save the approval result with the design and receiving record. C9120AXE-EWC-D has a different regulatory identity and is not an interchangeable region code.
Controller design checkpoint
C9120AXE-EWC-x requires IOS XE 16.12.2 or later according to Cisco's EWC data sheet. Document which AP hosts EWC, the supported member AP inventory, intended software version, upgrade sequence and failure/rollback plan. The embedded role does not eliminate compatibility validation.
Antenna and cable acceptance
Confirm the exact external antenna, cable length, connector type, losses, mounting and local EIRP calculation before installation. Inspect all RF interfaces on receipt and reject damaged connectors. Keep the antenna BOM linked to the AP serial and site survey.
End-of-sale migration decision
Cisco ended sale of the EWC AP SKU family on November 29, 2024 and limits its AP-hosted EWC software path to IOS XE 17.15.x. Applicable support ends November 30, 2029. Evaluate CAPWAP conversion to a supported WLC early; after commissioning verify controller state, member joins, radio operation and regulatory status.
Official evidence: Cisco Embedded Wireless Controller data sheet, Cisco 9120AX external-antenna installation guide, Cisco country and regulatory-domain lookup and Cisco EWC end-of-life notice.
