ASR1002-X is a Cisco 2-RU aggregation router with six built-in Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and integrated route and embedded services processors. The chassis identity is distinct from ASR1002-HX and from named software or performance bundles. Match the full ordering identifier and the supplied interface configuration when replacing equipment in an existing rack.
Five gigabits per second is the starting performance tier
The integrated embedded services processor defaults to 5 Gbps. Cisco documents upgrades to 10, 20 or 36 Gbps through separate software-activated performance licenses. The highest supported tier is not a statement of the entitlement installed in this unit, nor a promise of measured throughput with every service enabled. Ask for the active license and intended service configuration before comparing quotations.
Check memory and redundancy as installed
The ordering guide lists 4 GB of default DRAM and a 16-GB maximum for ASR1002-X. Confirm the installed memory rather than assuming the maximum. The route processor and ESP are integrated; the presence of two power supplies must not be described as redundant route processors. Verify the actual power-supply types, optical modules and optional interface cards against the quoted equipment.
Separate remaining support from security maintenance
Cisco ended sales of this order on August 1, 2022. The amended EOL14624 notice sets July 31, 2025 as the end of vulnerability and security support, and July 31, 2027 as the last support date under applicable active contract or warranty terms. Those are different milestones: remaining support does not mean new security remedies continue through 2027. The notice identifies IOS XE 17.9 and WAN Manager 20.15 as the final supported releases for this platform; assess the application and migration plan before a replacement purchase.
