AIR-AP1840I-E-K9 E-Domain Controller AP

AIR-AP1840I-E-K9 is the E-domain controller-managed order of Cisco's indoor Aironet 1840. It uses a 2x2 radio at 2.4 GHz, a four-spatial-stream 4x4 radio at 5 GHz, four internal antennas and two autosensing Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

E-domain RF acceptance

Cisco lists thirteen 2.4 GHz channels from 2.412 through 2.472 GHz. Its E-domain 5 GHz plan contains eight channels from 5.180 through 5.320 GHz and eight from 5.500 through 5.700 GHz, while excluding 5.600 through 5.640 GHz. Record the installed country and controller channel list; do not import the more restricted AIR-AP1840I-I-K9 profile.

Controller and software boundary

The K9 PID is distinct from a K9C factory Mobility Express order. Validate the intended controller architecture before purchase. Cisco specifies Unified Wireless Network software 8.8 MR2 or later, or Cisco IOS XE 16.12 or later, as the original minimum software families; current release compatibility and entitlement still require verification.

Power and port test

Baseline both Ethernet links and PoE negotiation. Published PSE draw is 13.2W with all features except USB and 17.8W when USB is active. Under 802.3af, the USB interface is disabled, so the acceptance report must identify the supplied PoE mode and the resulting feature state.

Lifecycle and replacement record

Cisco's retirement notice includes this exact E-domain PID, gives 30 April 2027 as the last support date and points to Catalyst 9115AX as the migration family. Capture serial, controller join, regulatory approval, PoE state, mount and lifecycle risk before approving used or replacement stock.
