A9K-48X10GE-1G-FC 48-Port Flexible Consumption Line Card

A9K-48X10GE-1G-FC is the 48-port ASR 9000 third-generation dual-rate line card sold under Cisco's Flexible Consumption Model. Each SFP/SFP+ port can serve documented 1GE or 10GE deployments, while the -FC suffix changes the software-capacity entitlement and must not be treated as an unrestricted traditional hardware PID.

Separate port count, forwarding design and license

Cisco designs the 48-port card for 400Gbps line-rate throughput with graceful 480:400 oversubscription. The FCM table lists an initial licensed capacity of 200G out of 480G. Forty-eight populated 10GE optics therefore do not by themselves authorize 480G of software capacity. Verify RTU/SIA entitlements and Smart Account state before acceptance.

Chassis and optic compatibility

The A9K PID is documented for ASR 9922, 9912, 9910, 9906, 9904, 9010 and 9006 chassis. Ports support SFP and SFP+ optics, including selected mixed 1G/10G arrangements. Confirm chassis fabric/RSP generation, IOS XR release, optic PID/DOM support and the intended speed grouping; do not substitute the A99-only variant without a compatibility review.

QoS and feature tier

Flexible Consumption is a commercial model, not the same as the service-edge or packet-transport optimization labels. Advanced features require the applicable Edge Essentials/Advantage RTU or subscription capacity. Map the required QoS, MPLS, DCI and service-edge functions to the purchased software tier and test counters for policy and oversubscription drops.

Lifecycle and migration

Cisco ended sales on 15 June 2024; the last date of support is 30 June 2029, subject to an active contract and software-release precedence. Cisco lists A9K-4HG-FLEX-FC as the migration PID. Procurement should capture serial/VID, support status, entitlement portability and the chassis migration plan.

Use A9K-24X10GE-1G-FC where 24 ports and a lower initial 100G FCM tier fit the design.
