PAN-PA-450 is the standard Palo Alto Networks PA-450 PA-400 Series firewall hardware PID. It provides eight RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbps traffic ports plus a separate 1Gbps management port. It is not the rugged PA-450R variant, a security subscription or a software-only license.
Palo Alto Networks' hardware architecture assigns 4 of 6 CPU cores to the PA-450 data plane. This model sits between PA-440 and PA-460 in the original PA-400 group. It fits a design whose tested policy, decryption and logging load does not require the PA-460 processing allocation. Do not select it solely because the front-panel port count matches the larger model. The related PA-460 uses a different processing allocation even though the two appliances share the same visible data-port layout.
Use a policy budget for the PA-450: enumerate security zones, encrypted applications, remote users, retained rules and required log destinations before hardware approval. A clean branch design with controlled growth can fit this model, while an unmeasured consolidation project should be escalated for a larger-platform test rather than relying on identical-looking Ethernet ports.
Acceptance should preserve a repeatable baseline of CPU utilization, session behavior and log-forwarding delay after all licensed inspection profiles are enabled. This evidence distinguishes a correctly sized PA-450 deployment from a temporary lab result with security controls omitted.
The appliance uses an external adapter that converts 100-240VAC input to 12VDC. Palo Alto Networks lists 32W average and 41W maximum consumption for both PA-450 and PA-460. A second adapter can be installed for load sharing and power redundancy but is purchased separately; the standard parts list includes one firewall and one adapter.
PA-450 and PA-460 first supported PAN-OS 10.1.0 and support active/passive or active/active HA. Benchmark the planned security profiles and encrypted-traffic load against the PA-450 design. Confirm the non-rugged PAN-PA-450 PID; PA-450R and its 5G form have different mechanical and deployment requirements. Verify current PAN-OS support, subscriptions, rack tray, spare adapter, HA cabling and centralized logging before release.
