The exact FG-50E column in Fortinet's 50E-series data sheet identifies two Gigabit RJ45 WAN interfaces and five Gigabit RJ45 switch interfaces, plus one USB and one RJ45 console port. The chassis is a desktop security appliance. Its wireless-interface and internal-storage entries are blank; the FortiWiFi radio variants and FG-51E storage variant have separate model rows. Match the supplied label and required network roles before accepting a substitute.

Read the FortiOS branch before buying a spare

Fortinet's release notes explicitly include FG-50E among the models supported by FortiOS 6.2.17, build 1405. The manufacturer's model recommendation table, checked on 9 October 2026, also lists 6.2.17 for FortiGate-50E and marks End of Engineering Support Passed as Y. A model being listed in release notes establishes that release's hardware compatibility; it does not by itself establish ongoing engineering, entitlement to downloads, or an unlimited security-update commitment.

For an installed-unit replacement, record the existing firmware build, required security functions and serial-specific service eligibility. Have the responsible operator review Fortinet's current release notes, advisories and supported upgrade path. Size inspection traffic using the appropriate measurement

The historical data sheet gives up-to figures of 350 Mbps IPS, 220 Mbps NGFW and 160 Mbps threat protection using enterprise traffic mix. Its 2.5 Gbps firewall figure describes a different test. NGFW includes firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection. The enterprise-mix measurements enable logging. Plan the actual inspection workload rather than treating the basic firewall figure as the throughput for every enabled security profile.

Confirm power and services for the supplied appliance

The FG-50E uses an external 12 VDC adapter with a 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz input requirement in the published table, and has a fanless desktop design. Confirm the adapter supplied with the unit, quoted condition, serial identity and eligible FortiCare or FortiGuard coverage. The bare hardware order does not establish a service term. The historical sheet describes the appliance and test conditions; it is not evidence of current inventory or contract availability.
