Begin a replacement check with the exact unit

Use FG-301E as the requested appliance identity, not merely the 300E family name. The official supplement depicts both 300E and 301E front panels. A shared connector layout does not prove that two offered units have identical storage, software, entitlement or physical condition. Request the serial identity and offered configuration before approving a substitute.

Reproduce the installed link roles

The numbered copper connections run from 1 to 16; optical SFP traffic ports run from 17 to 28. In addition, S1/S2 are identified for sniffer use and VW1/VW2 for a virtual-wire pair. For an existing installation, record which of those groups each cable uses. Review the configuration and transceiver requirements before moving links to a replacement chassis.

Retain an administrative recovery path

The guide distinguishes RJ45 management, high-availability and console connections from the numbered traffic ports. Keep their cabling and purpose explicit in the implementation checklist.
