FG-2201E is the storage-equipped FortiGate 2200E model

Fortinet FortiGate FG-2201E is a 2RU high-capacity security appliance in the FortiGate 2200E Series. Fortinet distinguishes the FG-2201E from FG-2200E by including two 1 TB onboard SSDs.

High-speed interface layout

Fortinet specifies four hardware-accelerated 40 GE QSFP+ slots, eighteen general-purpose and two HA 25 GE SFP28/10 GE SFP+/GE SFP slots, twelve GE RJ45 data ports and two GE RJ45 management ports. The ordering code does not imply that all required optics, breakout assemblies or direct-attach cables are included.

Storage and resilient power

The FG-2201E includes two 1 TB SSDs and dual AC power supplies. Confirm drive health, both power supplies, power-cord region, airflow, rack rails and the two included short-range 10 GE SFP+ transceivers during acceptance. The FG-2200E lacks the onboard SSD pair and must not be substituted without reviewing logging and storage requirements.

Performance must be sized by enabled services

Fortinet publishes up-to figures of 158 Gbps for large-packet firewall throughput, 21.8 Gbps for IPS, 13.5 Gbps for NGFW and 11 Gbps for threat protection. These are controlled lab values and change with traffic, inspection, logging, policy and software configuration. Size the appliance from the intended security profile rather than the firewall headline alone.

Procurement and migration checks

Validate the exact FG-2201E chassis, FortiOS support, FortiCare and FortiGuard entitlements, HA peer compatibility, optics, cables and rack accessories. Record the existing configuration and session requirements, test management and HA ports, inspect all storage devices and prove failover before production migration.
