S5296F-ON High-Density Fabric Role

S5296F-ON concentrates 96 server-facing 25GbE SFP28 ports and eight 100GbE QSFP28 ports in a 2RU fixed-form-factor platform. It is intended for high-density leaf, middle-of-row or end-of-row designs rather than conventional 1GbE campus access.

Fabric and Forwarding Capacity

Dell publishes 3.2 Tbps switching capacity, or 6.4 Tbps full duplex, with up to 2.4 Bpps, or 4.8 Bpps full duplex. The platform includes a 32 MB packet buffer, 16 GB CPU memory and 64 GB SSD. Capacity planning must include breakout mode, oversubscription and the actual server and spine port map.

Airflow, Power and Network OS

The chassis uses two redundant hot-swappable AC power supplies and four hot-swappable fan modules. Dell offers both I/O-to-PSU and PSU-to-I/O airflow options; a replacement must match the row cooling design. SmartFabric OS10, Enterprise SONiC and ONIE support are distinct software and operational choices that should be confirmed before purchase.
