ASR5K-FANT-UP Upper Tray Identity

ASR5K-FANT-UP is Cisco's upper fan tray for the ASR 5000 chassis. Cisco documents this assembly as the upper exhaust stage: it draws heated air through the chassis and discharges it from the upper rear and sides. The exact position and airflow role distinguish it from lower intake SKU ASR5K-FANT-LW.

Exhaust-path diagnosis

Use the upper SKU when inventory, alarm and physical inspection identify the upper fan controller or exhaust assembly. Before ordering, capture the chassis PID and serial, fan-controller state, speed, exhaust temperature, alarm text and current tray PID/version. Rule out blocked rear clearance, an upstream lower-intake problem or a system-wide thermal condition before replacing the exhaust tray.

Replacement-window controls

Follow the Cisco installation procedure and site safety rules. Have the verified upper replacement available before removing the installed unit, preserve ESD protection and allow rotating fans to stop before handling. Record the maintenance authority, rollback condition and maximum permitted exposure time for the running chassis; do not use instructions for the later ASR 5500 as proof of ASR 5000 interchangeability.

Post-install exhaust test

After seating the tray and restoring its cover, check the exact PID and serial in hardware inventory. Confirm upper fan-controller state, stable fan speed, exhaust temperature and alarm clearance. Observe the chassis through representative load and verify that the upper-rear path is not recirculating hot air into adjacent equipment.

Cisco lists ASR5K-FANT-UP and the spare form `ASR5K-FANT-UP=` in the ASR 5000 end-of-sale/end-of-life notice and recommends migration planning for the platform. Treat remaining stock as a legacy maintenance purchase: document condition, revision, source traceability and compatibility, and pair the repair with a migration or spares-risk decision.

Upper-tray boundary

This order does not replace the lower intake tray, particulate filter, power filter unit or chassis. It does not include an ASR 5500 front/rear fan set. Match the exact ASR 5000 location and PID rather than selecting a fan by enclosure appearance.
