ASR5K-FANT-LW Lower Intake Assembly

ASR5K-FANT-LW is the lower fan tray for the Cisco ASR 5000. It supplies the intake side of the chassis cooling system, drawing ambient air from the lower front and sides and moving it upward across cards and the midplane for vertical convection cooling.

Intake and filter investigation

Diagnose the complete lower airflow path before ordering. Capture Lower Fan Controller state and speed, intake temperature, alarms, chassis PID/serial and installed fan-tray PID. Inspect the lower bezel, intake clearance and particulate filter mounted above the lower tray. A clogged filter or blocked rack intake can raise temperature even when the tray itself still operates.

Correct spare and site environment

Match the exact ASR5K-FANT-LW PID or its Cisco-designated spare form to the legacy ASR 5000 chassis. Record hardware revision, serial and condition. Cisco recommends keeping a replacement particulate filter at the site, but the filter is a separate part; do not describe it as included with this lower fan-tray order unless the actual shipment documentation says so.

Lower-bay service acceptance

Use qualified personnel, ESD controls and the Cisco removal procedure. Secure the lower tray and its cover/EMI shield, then verify hardware inventory, controller state, fan speed, intake temperature and alarm recovery. Confirm unobstructed lower-front and side intake and observe temperatures across representative application and line-card load.

Cooling-chain evidence

The lower tray, filter, vertical card path and upper exhaust tray operate as a system. Preserve before/after intake readings and alarms, filter condition, upper-tray state and rack ambient conditions. If temperatures remain abnormal, investigate airflow recirculation, failed individual fans, sensors and facility cooling rather than repeatedly replacing the lower assembly.

Legacy maintenance decision

Cisco's lifecycle announcement lists ASR5K-FANT-LW and `ASR5K-FANT-LW=` as end-of-sale ASR 5000 components. A purchase should include traceability and a tested spare strategy, plus a documented trigger for migrating workloads from unsupported or supply-constrained hardware.

Lower-tray boundary

This is not the upper exhaust tray, air-filter spare, power filter unit or complete chassis. It is also not an ASR 5500 lower-front or lower-rear assembly. Verify the platform and physical bay before shipment.
