ASR5K-041GE-SX-K9 Four-Port Identity

ASR5K-041GE-SX-K9 is Cisco's QGLC four-port Ethernet 1000 line card for the ASR 5000, supplied with SX multimode short-haul SFP interfaces. The `04` density and QGLC identity distinguish it from the single-port GELC SKU ASR5K-011GE-SX-K9.

Four-link design check

Document the intended role of all four Gigabit Ethernet links before purchase: peer device and port, VLAN or routed interface, redundancy group, addressing, MTU and expected traffic. Confirm that the legacy ASR 5000 chassis, line-card slot and StarOS release support the exact QGLC PID and hardware revision.

Multimode optical acceptance

For each SX path, record fiber type, patch length, connector condition, polarity and peer optic. Clean and inspect the connectors, verify link on every populated port and preserve optical diagnostics where available. Do not describe an SX multimode interface as LX single-mode or copper simply because the cards share the same QGLC family.

Card-level commissioning

Inventory PID, version and serial after insertion. Confirm operational state, port enumeration and absence of hardware alarms. Test traffic and error counters independently on all four interfaces, then exercise the intended link or routing failover. Preserve the configuration and a rollback procedure for restoring the prior card or topology.

Density and spare planning

A four-port card can concentrate several network paths in one field-replaceable unit. Record the services affected by a single card outage and decide whether a tested spare, alternate path or migration is required. A one-port GELC cannot be treated as a like-for-like replacement for a four-port design without changing capacity and cabling.

Lifecycle boundary

Cisco includes ASR5K-041GE-SX-K9 in the ASR 5000 end-of-sale/end-of-life material. Verify provenance, condition and revision for any legacy stock and maintain a migration plan. This line card is not an ASR 5500 module and does not include chassis, processing cards, software support or facility work.
