ASR5K-00-GN10SESS 10K Active GGSN Session License

ASR5K-00-GN10SESS is Cisco's active GGSN software license for 10,000 sessions. It supplies subscriber-session capacity for a compatible StarOS GGSN deployment and does not include an ASR 5000/5500 chassis, interface cards, base GGSN entitlement, support contract or failover capacity.

Keep active and failover capacity separate

Cisco lists LIF5K-00-GN10SESS as the corresponding 10K failover PID. That is a different entitlement. Size the active and recovery systems independently, and do not assume this active-session license grants Inter-Chassis Session Recovery, geographic redundancy or capacity on a standby chassis.

10K capacity planning checks

Reconcile the existing licensed-session count, forecast peak PDP contexts, headroom, base service licenses and the target StarOS platform before ordering. Cisco states that GGSN is separately licensed and may require both session and feature licenses. A 10K increment does not by itself enable optional charging, policy, mobility or recovery features.

Legacy entitlement acceptance

Cisco's amended lifecycle bulletin places this PID in the ASR5K software end-of-sale set: the last order date was March 31, 2025 and application-software support ends July 31, 2027. Confirm entitlement transferability, target serial or virtual instance, licensing workflow and a recoverable license-key record before accepting the order.
