A9K-AC-PEM-V2 Version 2 Power Tray

A9K-AC-PEM-V2 is Cisco's AC Power Entry Module, or power tray, for the Version 2 ASR 9000 power architecture. It is the enclosure and input-distribution component for compatible AC power modules; it is not itself a 750W ASR 9001 supply and should not be described as a standalone 3kW output module.

Power modules are separate components

Cisco pairs the V2 architecture with PWR-3KW-AC-V2 modules for ASR 9006 and ASR 9010 family configurations. Technical tables allow up to four 3000W AC modules per V2 tray, subject to chassis model and power budget. Verify the delivered tray, module count, blanks, cords and circuit allocation as separate BOM lines.

Version compatibility gate

V1, V2 and V3 power entry systems are distinct architectures. Cisco's lifecycle notice replaced the V1 A9K-AC-PEM spare with the V2 PID, but that does not authorize mixing arbitrary generations. Confirm chassis PID, existing power system, backplane/connector revision, IOS XR support and the complete Cisco upgrade procedure before conversion.

Software recognition

Cisco introduced the component in IOS XR 4.2.0 and current 64-bit release tables list support from 6.1.2. Use the release table matching the deployed route-switch processor and image. Physical installation without recognized inventory and healthy environmental telemetry is not an acceptable result.

Facility and redundancy calculation

For each installed 3kW module, use Cisco's documented input VA, cord and breaker requirements and map modules across independent facility feeds. Calculate capacity from the actual card population and required N+1/N+N policy; four empty tray positions do not create 12kW of usable output.

Commissioning record

Verify exact tray PID/VID/serial, chassis compatibility, installed PWR-3KW-AC-V2 PIDs, filler panels, cords, breakers, feed mapping, grounding and airflow. Confirm IOS XR inventory, voltage/current, alarms and failover behavior under a controlled module or feed loss before acceptance.
