A99-12X100GE-FC is Cisco's ASR 9900 12-port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Flexible Consumption line card. Cisco classifies it as third-generation hardware with 1.2T of physical port capacity and 500G initially enabled; it is distinct from dual-rate 10GE/1GE cards and does not include a chassis, QSFP28 optics or an unlimited-capacity license.

100GE capacity acceptance

Twelve 100GE interfaces provide the physical 1.2T envelope, while the Flexible Consumption record starts at 500G. Procurement must identify the required enabled-bandwidth tier, exact port breakout and optics plan, and any capacity activation entitlement. A port-count match alone does not establish usable throughput.

Platform dependency

Validate the exact ASR 9900 chassis, fabric generation, route processor, IOS XR release and supported QSFP28 optics before installation. This third-generation card should not be assumed compatible with every ASR 9000 chassis or with a fifth-generation replacement merely because both expose high-speed Ethernet ports.

End-of-life migration gate

Cisco ended sale on April 30, 2023 and lists April 30, 2028 as the last support date. The stated replacement is A9K-20HG-FLEX-FC, a fifth-generation 2T Flexible Consumption combo line card. Migration requires a fresh chassis, software, fabric, optics and licensed-capacity review; the replacement PID is not proof of direct slot-level interchangeability.
